So the calender once again falls on this day. Each year on this date, I remind my kids of its double importance. First, its aunt Cassie's birthday. For anyone interested, I sent her this awesome happy birthday video.
On a much bigger note, I remind them of the historic value of this date. Not to instill fear in them, but to remind them that we need to remember the lives lost and also, it reminds me. I remember the time following the world trade center attacks. I remember caring about my country for the first time ever. I remember the hundreds of thousands who gathered together to help in some way, if to only lend a shoulder or say a prayer. I remember feeling close to perfect strangers for the first time ever, we all shared something. We had an experience that was part of each of us, and even though it was for a short time, it brought us all together. Let us not forget the hope we all felt in each other, in the world as a whole durring those days. We caught a glimps of what humanity is capable of durring that time of devastating loss. If we hold on to that, if we all remember that we all have something even BIGGER in common ... we are humans, all of us... then the thousands of lives lost would have deep purpose. A purpose that could be woven into each and every soul on this Earth. So today I ask you to remember 9-11, not just for the tragic losses, but for the unity we all shared following it... remember how close you felt to perfect strangers...reconect with that feeling... we are all so close to each other, so lets treat others in a way that says 'we're family, you and I'. I pray you all have a great day, and that each person assists one another on thier great day...
